Cascades can be used to keep track of balances.
The simplest form of a cascade is a control account, which typically presents only opening balances, changes, and closing balances.
The general form of a cascade allows for opening and closing balances, with a breakdown of movements and balances available for various usages in between.
[It would be useful to include an example here]
Cascades are used commonly used in situations such as:
- forecasting cash usage within project finance operational models for assets that are at risk of cash shortfall;
- within fund or portfolio models with cash limiting future investments; and
- for models of facilities where the product can be sent to different customers or used in various ways.
